Artist Statement
My work follows a narrative of fantastical mysticism and surrealism, born from the constructed world known as Terrah, and the stories of the Turning Wheel.
Much of what I use in my paintings and sculptures are that which I can find either in my day-to-day life, or else from unlikely sources. Between layers of oil and acrylic paints lay applications of drywall compound, bits of moss, bone, feathers, metal scraps and fabric leaves, which built up to a surface that’s textured and chaotic. The stories of the Turning Wheel are my informants, not my goal within the works, influencing but not guiding as I build and tear away at the canvas. Each work is therefore about the journey of it’s creation, rather than it’s final destination.
But no work of mine is ever truly finished.
Fantasy and collaborative storytelling has always been something deeply important to me, and the stories born from the Turning Wheel are even moreso. As the worlds and realms of the Turning Wheel evolves and grows, and it’s stories are written and published, so too will my works evolve. It is a world I’ve lived in for years now, and it is a world I invite you to enter through my works.
